Top Five Strategies for Learning Chinese

Learning Chinese is a challenge for there are tones, vocabulary, sentence construction and many other factors that are involved in the learning of the language, any language for that matter. It is the characters involved though that can horrify some of the students who are nervous about learning a totally different way of learning letters. Here are five strategies for learning Chinese:

1. Determination and perseverance. No matter what anyone says, learning a second language will be hard, if not impossible, if the student is not determined to learn and when they start meeting some difficulties in the learning, they need to persevere and never give up.

2. Practice writing the language. There are characters in the Chinese language and it is important o memorize these how they are written so they are easier to understand in the end. There is a flow from one character to the next and understanding how to combine the characters to form a different one is one of the most challenging tasks in learning the Chinese language.

3. Practice speaking the language with someone else. Do not just go to school and speak it inside the classroom. Have a friend talk to you in the language when there are just the two or more of you. This way, there is an exchange of learning that will make the learning faster and more efficient.

4. Listen to different media like the radio or television. Listen to music, this is considered one of the best ways to learn any language. Listen to the news in Chinese and listen to how the native speakers speak the language. The Chinese language is a tonal language and there are ebbs and flows to the language that is not found in the English language.

5. Get immersed into the language. Speaking to a friend or a group of students in the Chinese language may not be enough. Why not use it even in the privacy of the home. Like when cooking, speak the words in Chinese that identify whatever it is that is in the hands, or reading or doing. This way, living the Chinese life will make it easier to comprehend the language.
